What’s this about a new java chat room upgrade?
Your name is in blue – everyone sees their own name in blue. Everyone else sees your name in red.
Pms, whispers, and ignore buttons are all in the “right click on someone’s name” menu now.
PMs do not pop up in new windows – they become tabs. When someone pms you, there is no setting to auto-pop, or auto – open a new tab; you will have to find their name in the list and right click to pm them back, which will open a new tab.
There is no “eye button” that allows you to see all people in all the rooms list.
We also do not have all the naughty smileys with the new system.
The ability to change the colors of your username is not possible with the new system.
jamegar found that user avatars may only show for firfox users, not IE or safari when entered from forums pic.
The anchor to stop the scroll does not stop 100%
The custom “emotes” do not work the same either. We have experimented with ways of making emotes with the new system, and it is kind of rudimentary – you can type a colon and a plural word and kind of make it happen. Singular words don’t seem to work for some reason. So typing ” : dances with wolves” will show in the room as an italicized emote kind of thing. but typing ” : dance with myself” doesn’t work. It’s something we will have to get use to and deal with, as we are spending most of our resources on the forum integration with the newest flash chat systems, and so we are limited to the modifications we can afford time for with this interim system. I am hoping to get the new forums connect / avatar thing working with this system, and if people can have avatars or custom pictures next to their names, then it should take some of the sting out of not being able to change screen name colors.
So what else, let me see here – private messages do not pop up in new windows – they kind of open in a new tab, and you can’t see the lobby while you are in the other tab. That is kind of drag, but it does also keep the windows more stable. I often have trouble with having multiple pms open with the older system. A help button has been suggested, so yeah, I need to make a help page, and really want to produce a short video showing how to use the features, and showing some etiquette issues.
That kind of bugs me too. I am working with one of our programmers to see what we can do about these issues with the new java chat system. If it turns out that we can fix or modify some of these things without it costing too much time and money, then I would love to make them happen.
What about the new flash chat rooms we’ve been hearing about?
We are working on the new flash based chat room system, it is coming together nicely, with lots of cool new features. It is missing a few key ingredients unfortunately, and we are working on that. It’s going to be delayed a few weeks at this point as we add new features and test the functionality. The new java chat room upgrade has some bonuses, and a few drawbacks, but will serve the chat community here well as we continue to develop the newer flash based system.
Why the interim java chat upgrade?
We need it for several reasons. It’s been a long time with the old system that we have all come to know and love. We’ve really outgrown it. The newer java system should make things easier on the eyes in a few ways, and the main advantage of it is the new moderation system. Our moderators have a pretty tough job already, and the old system makes it really hard for them to kick and ban the right people as the list moves and there are some other limitations. With the new system moderators should have a much easier time banning the spammers. This will make the room better for all of our users.
There are some other cool things about the new interim upgrade, like the ability to sort the names list alphabetically, and a few other things. In a few days we should have the interim system connected with the new forums system, and fingers are crossed that the new system will pull user’s avatars or profile pics from the forums into the new chat. We are also working to have the registration system in place with this interim system so people can “own” their screen names. There are many different ways to deploy this, and I am not sure how will be best. We could force all chat room users to register, which would make it easier for everyone to own their sex chat identity here, and we may find a hybrid way to do things – not sure yet, we’ll keep ya posted. The newer system should be pretty familiar to everyone using the current / old system as it is very similar. There are a few major losses with the new system however.

The moderating notes seem to point to your ip being in a room that had a banned subject matter. I really do not think this ban can be lifted. Some of the chat room rules are one strike, your out. The subject matter of that room was one of those.
Damn it, now I know to keep my friends away from my laptop

I would need to convene a group of moderators and discuss the situation. That could take a couple of days before I catch them online same time as I. For now I must say that from the information I have (which is limited) – I would not lift this ban. I may get more details on the situation and be convinced otherwise. I will see if I can find any of the moderators and chat about it.
That is a problem that is all too common. Everyone should have an auto screen saver that goes to password re-login, and a non admin account if allowing friends to borrow…

I do not see your ip in our ban list. I am assuming that you were kicked or banned from that chat room for a time based period. Maybe one of our moderators kicked you from the chat room for a minor rules infraction, which should give you enough time to read the rules and understand what we expect from our users. If you had waited an hour before commenting here, you may have found the ban was automatically lifted. If you still can not access the room, let me know.

I really do not know.. I see nothing in the ban list for your ip, or the username eragon at this time. Maybe a moderator banned you temporarily, or maybe you tried to enter the chat room at a time when someone else in the room had already chosen that name. Maybe you came into the chat room and someone else with that name had recently been temp-banned. Either way, I am assuming that you can access the chat rooms just fine now?

I recently switched from dial up to sat net hughes net in fact which is a faster connection but now i am haveing a lot of trouble connecting to sexchat it keeps saying connect failed when i try to join chat can ya help me out plz?
I do not see your ip in our ban list. I am guessing there is a different connection issue. Did you install new firewall software when you moved to the new internet provider? I would try to turn off your firewall for a few minutes and try to connect to see if that clears the issue. I am not 100% sure how the hughes net works for uploading. Years ago when I looked into satellite services, the download speed was awesome, but the upload speed relied on telephone lines. Our chat room system requires open ports through your firewall for upload and download connecting (and some other technical details). I am also wondering if hughes may have something in their system that would block two way connections such as the java chat system here. I would check with hughes after you check your own firewall. Please let me know if you find out anything about this situation!
I have tryed disabeling the firewalls and no help but i have narrowed it down a bit i think, it seems that in the day time up to say 4 er 5 o clock i can connect to the site no problem but later on in the evening and night is when i seem to have the problem! Like maybe when the site has a heavier load or something!
I really doubt the site is having any issues keeping up with connections, perhaps the hughes net slows down and drops connections more at night time, or they have more traffic. Our chat room handles quite a bit of users at a time, and every time I have checked we have zero dropped messages. Maybe the hughes net is having a harder time during cloudy times, or maybe their upload traffic is choking during prime times?
The fact that you can connect sometimes and not others is strange, I do not think anyone else is having connection issues.
I dunno lol but it’s gittin aggitateing, i tryed for 3 hours a few nights ago and finally got in but thats rediculose no matter if it’s hughes net, this ,site or something i have messed up in my comp !
I have checke don everything with hughes net and they have said their is a problem and that my net is running sloer than it should be and they are sending someone to check this problem, and if this dosent fix it then the problem must be on your end because i can connect to yahoo pool anytime of the day and it is a java chat applet!

Ok heres what i have found out thus far, Hughes net has what they call a fair treatmrent act, which means basically that anyone useing their basic internet gets 200 megabytes of download speed er sompin and once you have used that your net slows way down, they offer you an oppurtunity to buy more at 10 dollars per 50 megs more so the reason i can get in the room of the morning is because my 200 megs renews either late night or early morn and by evening it is all gone cuz my woman plays farmville on FB all day lol so thanks fer trying!
That is really interesting! I had not idea. So it’s kind of like some of those per GB plans that clearwire and virgin and other wireless carriers are offering. If you watch a bunch of videos online, the whole month’s worth of throughput can be wiped out. Very good to know, thanks so much for sharing!
Yes and when you use all your 24 hour alotment that comes with the “cheap package” your whole internet experience is slowed to less than regular dialup speeds! I guess you get what you can afford to pay for! I have a nother question now a few days ago my computer began requesting me to DL a activeX control when i try to log in to this site may I ask why becaues my comp has blocked it the Dl of that activex
The activex could be something that internet explorer needs to run the extra java based ad cycler. I think if you use firefox instead of IE you do not get bugged about activex stuff. I think it’s great the Microsoft has had things like that pause, as some sites can have virus and spyware that gets deployed when some activex stuff runs – but Microsoft should offer a scanner when it pauses and asks.
So I am guessing it has something to do with the extra java loaded that loads in the fancy fades between ad pictures. It’s safe on the chat page when it loads.
If you were just surfing for free porn, and for some reason free picture gallery sites, alias TGPs, some of them employ activex that tries to install nasty spyware and even fake viruses – crazy right? There are also issues with that if you were doing searches for torrents, as the music industry and movie industry have hired hackers to make viruses that take over your computer just by visiting a page.
I would be concerned about an activex pop up warning on sites like that, I would be less concerned if I was running the most up to date anti-virus software, something like Norton 360, or Avira, or Kapersky – but only if it’s current and up to date. Having Anti-virus software that had it’s license expire 30 days ago, is like fucking a need junkie hooker with a condom that expires last year – not the kind of risk you wanna take.
Yeah when it comes to stuff like that i kinda have to take other peoples werd for it lol , so yeah i get screwed alot because of that. I just wish their was somethinfg that could be done to solve my problem of getting into the room without me havin to sell my “third” leg!
I have been trying to get into the room with the DL speed still full and no doing it so i’m beginning to think it’s not on my end at all! have tryed several different things so it must have something to do with the server someway! I just keep getting “connect failed”!
Have you tried with both firefox and Internet Explorer?
Have you tried turning off any firewalls, norton 360, mcafee, windows firewall, etc?
Is there a firewall on your router?
Is your java up to date?
I have not heard anyone else having these issues, so I am wondering if it is specific to your computer, or all the computers on your network? Or maybe something else.
I haven’t tryed with firefox but i have tryed with IE and google chrome and theirs no difference, i have turned of all the firewalls on my computer and that dont seem to have help and i have no idea how to check or turn off any firewalls on the router! I can go to the avatar gallery here no problem, i can go to any of the links at the bottm like the one that brings me here with no problems, for some reason when i try to update java windoows blocks it and i dont know how to make it let it update!
you may need to be logged in as administrator or have admin rights on your system. Certainly being logged in as a guest or as a limited user account, windows may not let you install anything.

Sounds like a java permissions issue, could be your antivirus or antispyware products that are preventing changes to the software on your system also.
okie dokie lol i found out how to turn off the firewall in my router and tryed that, didnt help, i also followed your link and updated my java,didnt help, i tryed another computer on my connection this computer had vista and google chrome on it ,didnt help! Any other suggestions
So you tried two different computers at your place, using the hughes internet right? Could you take one of those computers to a wifi hot spot, like at starbucks or somewhere, and see if the computer can access the chat okay using a different internet service provider?

you will need to take a photo of you with your Id to prove your age and mail it in. Along with a scanned image of your DL. Then we would consider and talk about it.

The directory is not found, a permissions problem may have prevented this directory from being created. Fixing the actual problem is recommended, but you can uncheck this setting on the si captcha options page: “Use CAPTCHA without PHP session” and the captcha will work this way just fine (as long as PHP sessions are working).

Yes, the site was down for a good portion of the day – I was asleep when our tech peeps added new, larger hard drives to the server and did not know the chat room script was not restarted. hey I love this site, best rooms by far! I’d love to be able to access this any time but getting on a sex chat site on a another computer is… well complicated I was just wondering if you could come out with a smart phone friendly version, it’s much more privet for those of us who share computers. iPhones dont run flash or abobe so the rooms dont open other than that the rest of the site works fine! thanks for your time.
Thank you for your input. Yes we are currently testing a version that will run on smartphones. With all the different phones handicapped in certain ways; the iphone (and ipad) not doing flash, windows dumbphones not doing flash or java, and other limitations on similar mobile devices, it’s a challenge. We do have a couple of test versions that are running a very basic version of the chat room, but it is going to take about another 900$ to finish the code tweaks needed. This is in the plan, just taking a bit more time and money than we originally thought.

What about moving to an IRC room, as xxxchatters has? We could still have a java client on the website, but allow users to come in over IRC as well. Plus with IRC, functionality could be vastly upgraded.

Good question, and it’s on the list of things to try to add int he newest version we are working on. Thanks for commenting and letting us know it is important to you, I know for every one person who comments here there are at least ten more with similar feelings about the features.
I know alot of work goes into designing these sites and I can understand the work that went into it, but why were the regulars not consulted about what they would have liked to have included in it ? I absolutely dont like that i cant see the lobby when I am in a pm. I miss most of the conversation in the lobby, if i decide to talk in a pm. I dont cyber in pms anymore so from my viewpoint I dont like it. Others who like it , like it cause the lobby doesnt distract them anymore. How about an option button in the settings section where we could decide on it ourself, View Lobby or Dont view Lobby. And i am not a computer genius, it is too complicated for me to figure out how this avatar procedure works, how about using something like Messenger uses in emails like a browsing feature to add a picture . I love the idea that we may be able to register our names so there is less chance of being impersonated as happens sometimes now. Please add a feature like you have here in this section to write to you, a page of emicons that we could refer to to spice up the lobby since no personality feature is allowed with the colors being taken away from us. I do appreciate that i am not constantly being logged out when I didnt choose to log out so often anymore. Oh and the other feature id like see changed is that if you write something in a pm you can switch to the group chat and if you havent pressed enter correctly before leaving the pm, and you hit the enter key in the group chat room it appears in the lobby. That should be changed as sometimes the info we share in a pm we dont want the lobby to see. Thats it for now, thank you.
Thanks for taking the time to write Calarissa! Some of the regs were cosulted, and we did some testing, and I found out real quick that the name color was going tobe a big issue. We had experimented some with the pms, and had to weigh the benefits of the new chat with the minuses, and decided to launch it and see what happens.
You said in your post that you are not very geeky, but I have a kind of geeky temp fix that may help with the pm / not seeing the lobby situation. Using whispers. Now this would be tough with more than one pm at a time, and not as easy as the old pop up window – but in the meantime, instead of going to a pm room, you could use the whisper function. Here is something I learned the other night, when you click to whisper to someone, do you see that the chat window adds something like “/msg Steve” then whatever you typer after that is what is whispered to that person.
Well, I decided to copy that text the “/msg hsg :” or whatever, so then I was able to keep up with the lobby conversations, and the occasional whisper back and forth with hsg. I simply hit ctrl-v to paste “/mes hsg:” – it worked like charm – up until about 8 messages later, I responded by just typing and forgot to paste the /msg part – and that one message went out in the lobby. It’s an idea that may be worth trying.
Yes emoticons are a major need / lacking here – definitely gonna see what I can do about that. Oh wow, thanks for pointing that out – not hitting enter while in pm and having that go to lobby – haven’t experienced that – but it makes sense, and that would not have been an issue with the older version, having the chat windows pop up. Hmm.. adding that to the list.
With a little luck we will be able to mod this current java version a bit to make it a little better, and in about two weeks, maybe halloween time, we should be able to test the next flashchat version. If you’d like to help test it, just let me know, I’ll be sure to invite you (And other regs) to give it a spin and get some pre-launch feedback.

Steve yes id love to help in the prelauch and try it out to give some ideas and feedback, especially as a competant user but not as a expert geek per say. And ty for the idea about the whisper I appreciate it. Maybe in the help section there could be added some of the tips that ppl could use to make it more user friendly for them.

This should make it easier for everyone to have an avatar picture in the chat rooms, and make it easier to crop and upload a profile pic or avatar pic in the new chat forums as well.
I love the site, and the new room is cool, especially with the avatars, but I do miss the colours, and the eye funtion, but I would like to thank everyone from the designers to the mods, for putting in the hard work to run the site.

I agree with you BAR. I’ve been weighing the pluses and minuses since our release. I ;ave been keeping an eye on things and testing myself. There are many thing I miss about the old room, even with it’s faults. I am hoping we can everything we liked about the old and new in the new flashchat we will be testing this week. We’ll see.
I think the emoticons are fugly. I’d rather have them be simple than overly animated. I like how the font is one size now, less chance for flooding and spammers to be evil. You probably already know the color, bold, italic, underline doesn’t stick all the time. Hmm…I like how it looks! Cool layout. Oh, I noticed that when people do the colon action/emotion thing, that it doesn’t stand out from the incoming traffic.

Yes, I knew the name color was going to be a major issue for the regs especially. I tried to get that functionality, but having the avatars as an option, and perhaps automatically pulled from the forums profile – should alleviate that.
The pms not popping in a new window kind of sucks, and really the bigger issue for me is not being able to set them to “auto-pop-up” is a bigger issue. The chat should be more stable however. I had noticed with the old version, when you get more than one PM box going, sometimes they disappeared and reappeared, I am sure others had issues with that too – so now, that’s not an issue – lol.
