New SSL secure for SCSC

Oh so many pieces to be rebuilt during this transition to a newer faster web server! A few things are mentioned in this blog post from yesterday about the moving / rebuilding here.

Update – some minutes after posting this.. doing a (hold Shift + refresh / reload page) worked for me to be the /blog section to show secure – but that was not working for the /peeps section. I think I have to clear cookies there and then history- forget this site and more shift refreshes – it was wonky and not working for a bit until I logged in for some reason.

I grabbed some screen shots, not sure posting them at this moment will help or make it more confusing – haha – maybe it’s a auto-time thing. Try the shift refresh/reload first I guess.

One thing I had thought was covered, was not working very well – it gave a lot of people notices about insecure warning with the browser. I am glad web browsers give these notices, and glad that Mikey posted a mods discussion comment for me to see this was an issue for folks.

So I got to changing our new SSL provider – and now we have a new security certificate to show that the site pages are served securely from our server to your browser with the proper setup and a more popular / well received certificate provider. The one we were using during the past couple of days did encrypt data, but it was not a popular cert provider, so warnings.

Anyhow, it’s looking good now from my end at least and using the firefox browser – if you refresh the pages you are on you should see a good lock icon in the browser bar, something like:

clicking the lock icon shows our new ssl cert (firefox shown)

now to get the colors and layouts tightened up on the peeps section a bit, then back to updating and hopefully pushing some of the newer modification codes to the xirta chat system.

Folks should find the site pages a LOT faster than they were the past few months or so – this new server is more modern and we’ve upgraded the ram memory and such. Also using SSD drives instead of the old spinning ones – so it should stay pretty fast and solid at this point.

As mentioned in the blog post yesterday, if you see other things that need fixing, especially if something is broken or not available that was before the move – let know so it gets on the todo list!
