xirta migrate update, ending dec 21

I know there has been lots of requests for updates on the xirta system coming back online – I apologize for not posting more often, it’s been a crazy half a year or so!

Yesterday I secured a new web server with 6 times for space and speed in order to migrate the chat system. It’s going to take some days to add in the basic security stuff, then a few days to move files.

I may have to venture across the state to rescue some friends during the holiday weekend, but will continue to make sure files are flying and things are moving to the faster and bigger chat home between stops.

If all goes well, we may be able to be back online before the 1st of 2022. I think I found a way to make things work in a hybrid kind of web server situation, but have backup plan in case that doesn’t work, and another two backup plans just in case.

We’ve made several attempts to fix our over-use of hard drive space using advanced tools to clear things and compress things. I even paid to add another 500GB hard drive to try to give our old chat server the space it needed to run cleanups and all sorts of things – it’s been a crazy amount of work, but the save attempts have all failed.

I am still doing everything I can to save all the data so it will be a smoother transition when the chat comes back.

In retrospect there are some other things I may have done if I known these other avenues would lead to a dead end, but hindsight being 20/20 is not helping today – but it may save time in the future.

I’d like to say this move to bigger / faster space could happen faster, and it could – but I’m anticipating little detours along the path that could be confounded with holiday hours and all sorts of things turning into roadblocks until the weekend is over and what not.

Once the system is back up and running, it should have enough drive space to run for at least another year without needed an upgrade – but I am still already working on several upgrades and won’t be stopping once the system is functioning again.

Will be creating a new backup plan, and working to add the new features to the system, along with some extra things to make it leaner and faster.

I am close to being back to 95% physically and setting things up so I can get be back to my multiple work environments, so things are moving much faster now than they were a couple months ago.

Here’s a pic of a cute bunny just because.

Looking forward to getting our multiple chat rooms back online soon – bringing sexy back, asap.
